Project Gotham Racing was a launch game for Microsoft's new Xbox console, and the spiritual successor to Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast. We had our work cut out hitting another the North American Xbox launch (Nov 2001), but we managed it and went on to sell over 2 million units worldwide!

The name "Project Gotham Racing" was actually the internal code name for the game here at Bizarre. Gotham is another name for New York City, and considering NYC was the new location added from MSR, Project Gotham seemed to fit (we couldn't use the Metropolis Street Racer name, as it was owned by Sega and Microsoft were publishing PGR!). Nobody could think of anything better, so the Project Gotham Racing name stuck!

We've learned our lesson at Bizarre, and now our project codenames have a healthy dose of swearwords in them to prevent them becoming final again!
