E3: Booth Babes Report

E3: Booth Babes Report

The Boy takes us on a magical trip...

Thursday, June 09 2005

As everyone knows, E3 is a crazy time of year for the industry. Coders leave the shadows for their annual sunlight, producers start clearing holes in schedules and artists begin mentioning the need for more 'city' reference. Yes - it's the ultimate show down in the computer games market. Publishers and developers alike battle it out to fill floor space with hungry journalists. All in all, it has to be experienced to be believed.

Pfft. Enough of that.

I took my camera to E3 for one purpose only - Booth Babes. These (often bored) beauties are paid to make us poor fools wander over and play a game, hopefully to realize "Wow, this is quite good!" and then rave about it to everyone. I made it my personal mission to get as many photographs as possible and figure out the answer to the biggest question in E3: Who had the best booth babes? With no further ado!:

5. FragDolls - (Gaming Clan)

First up are the all girl gaming clan "The Frag Dolls" - one of them tried to cross my palm with a leaflet as I was leaving the show, so I promised to take one if I could get a quick picture. A quick flash and brief conversation later I found that they'd taken on some Halo 2 guys at their own game - and won. They definitely deserve a mention on the top 5, top notch ladies.

4. NCSoft - (Publisher)

As Gareth mentioned in the developer diary I got to bump into Richard Garriott of Ultima series fame. A (long) chat and demo later and I was about the leave the NCSoft stand; then 5 ladies came onto the massive stage wearing some very non-conventional clothing and carrying long poles.

Then came the fire.

Spinning in sinuous movements (and swinging big flaming sticks) they performed a kind of tribal-esque dance for the gathering public. Very brave, especially since there was plenty of skin on show to get scorched!

3. Ryl - (MMORPG Game)

We moved downstairs into Kentia Hall and expected to see nothing more than a couple of startup publishers, joystick manufacturers and 'kustom konsolez' creators. How we were wrong! The Ryl people had obviously spent a sizeable portion of their E3 budget on hiring some stunning talent for their booth; it was hard work to get to the booth nevermind get a clear shot.

Still, we came through and were further amazed that the girls actually showed you how to play the game, and took you through your first steps. Amazing, especially after one tried to strangle me (and I have the image to prove it...)

2. Namco - (Publisher)

Namco.

...

Namco, Namco, Namco.

Good show, you nearly had the top spot - you hit the unsuspecting journalists (and us) with lady characters from Soul Caliber performing marshal arts on stage, leather clad lovelies filing their way through the crowds and - ultimately - the near nude angels on poles. Absolute work of genius I must say, and the pictures don't do any of them justice.

1. Gizmondo - (Console/Publisher)

A little story here… one of our staff went outside for some fresh air and ran into a guy who claimed that he was working on the Gizmondo stand. Allegedly (and I have to use that word) the entire Gizmondo plan for E3 was: Get the best booth babes in the whole show.

Well, they certainly did that with a mix of blonde bombshells in black, pit girls in front of a Carrera GT (gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous!) and a mix of 50/50 males to females in their area. Without a doubt the winners of the Best Booth Babes at E3 2005 - hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.

Others

Obviously these weren't the only booths at the show with hired help; however, for me these were the ones that shone. Other pictures include Deep Silver's "Singles" girls who would pick random guys out the audience and make them disappear for an hour. Also worthy of note were ATi and Nyko girls who both went for the red look - I think ATi won that one personally, but it was a close call.

Anyhow, enjoy the pictures - I certainly had fun collecting them...
